Archaeologists have made a major discovery beneath a new skyscraper construction site in central London, uncovering the foundations of a vast Roman basilica dating back to approximately 78–84 AD. This find reveals the monumental scale and sophistication of urban planning in Londinium, the capital of Roman Britain. The structure, which would have been one of the largest Roman buildings north of the Alps at the time of its construction, offers critical insight into the administrative and public life of the settlement in the decades following the Roman conquest. The discovery underscores the extensive and organized nature of the Roman presence in Britain.
