Swedish researchers, in collaboration with the Swedish Institute in Rome, have created an online digital portal that allows users to virtually explore nearly 280 Etruscan tombs. Using laser scanning, photogrammetry, and 3D modeling, the project preserves delicate Etruscan heritage and makes these ancient sites accessible to a global audience. The portal aims not only to document and study these tombs but also to provide a teaching tool — beginning in 2026 — for archaeology students, democratizing access to cultural heritage without physical intrusion into fragile sites.
