A group of top researchers from physics, biology, medicine, and engineering selected the 25 breakthroughs that have most changed how humanity understands the world in the 21st century. Several were once considered impossible: editing genomes with base-level precision, watching distant black holes collide in real time, mapping the human proteome, and creating vaccines at record-setting speed using synthetic mRNA. Taken together, these breakthroughs show that discovery is accelerating, not slowing — and that entirely new scientific frontiers are beginning to form.
