India’s Science & Technology ministry announced the creation of four advanced quantum fabrication hubs to be hosted at three IITs (Delhi, Bombay, Kanpur) and the Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru). Backed by a ₹720-crore investment, the hubs are designed to accelerate device fabrication, support prototype quantum hardware, and provide testbeds for superconducting and neutral-atom qubit research. The program aims to reduce lead times for custom quantum devices, foster local supply chains for cryogenics and control electronics, and train a workforce capable of building and maintaining large-scale quantum systems. Government officials framed the move as a strategic investment to position India among nations with operational quantum fabrication capabilities, enabling closer industry-academia collaboration and faster translation from lab results to industrial systems. Analysts noted this could shift regional collaboration patterns and attract private capital into domestic quantum startups.
