A study examining individuals with major psychiatric disorders found that consuming up to four cups of coffee per dayis associated with significantly longer telomeres (the protective caps on chromosomes). Longer telomeres suggest a potential slowing of biological aging by approximately five years. While more research is needed, this suggests that the simple, accessible dietary component of coffee may offer an unexpected protective effect and slow the biological aging process in patients managing chronic mental health conditions.
