A study of 412 cardiac-arrest patients found organized gamma and theta activity lasting up to 8 minutes after circulation stopped in those reporting near-death experiences. The correlation (3.5 sigma) challenges brain death models and suggests consciousness mechanisms beyond cardiac function.
