The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) has completed the most detailed 3D map of the universe to date, tracing 11 billion years of cosmic history. Groundbreaking results suggest that dark energy may be weakening over time, rather than remaining constant as Einstein’s “Cosmological Constant” suggested. If confirmed, this would overturn the core “Lambda CDM” model of cosmology and suggest the universe’s fate—whether it continues to expand forever or eventually collapses—is far more mysterious than we thought.
