Researchers have used artificial intelligence to identify a powerful new antibiotic capable of killing drug-resistant bacteria, including strains that evade nearly all existing treatments. By training a deep-learning model on chemical structures and bacterial growth data, scientists rapidly screened millions of compounds and uncovered a previously overlooked molecule with strong antibacterial activity. Laboratory tests showed the drug was effective against multiple resistant pathogens while remaining non-toxic to human cells. The breakthrough demonstrates how AI can dramatically accelerate drug discovery and may help address the growing global crisis of antibiotic resistance.
